SysML v2 Projects

A SysML v2 project holds one model, written in the SysML v2 textual notation and kept as elements (packages, definitions, usages and relationships).

Create one

  • On Manage Projects, click + New Project.
  • Under How will you model this system?, choose SysML v2, enter a name and click Create Project.

To start from SysML v2 files, click Project Files ▾ → Import SysML v2 Files… and choose .sysml files, a .zip of them or a SysML v2 JSON file (Import and Export SysML v2 Files).

To explore a finished model, click Project Files ▾ → New Demo Project → Hybrid Car (SysML v2) on Manage Projects. It creates a hybrid car model (ports, interfaces, subsystems, variants and requirements) and opens it in the Editor.

For a larger model, choose Earth Observation Satellite (SysML v2): the EO-2 mission in about 3,000 lines, with Holarch's features filled in on top of it. Its Home page lists open findings; to try it: open the specification under Documents, run the imaging pass in the Simulator, check the imager's mass breach under Budgets, review the suspect links, compare the PDRPreliminary Design Review A milestone review that confirms the preliminary design meets the requirements and is ready for detailed design. baseline under Baselines, and open the spacecraft modes view.

Where things are

  • Home: the Home of LMLLifecycle Modeling Language An open modeling language with a small set of classes and relationships that covers a system's whole lifecycle. Holarch models are LML models. projects on the model: Needs attention, Lifecycle cards, Next actions and the other panels. + Add panel → Model contents counts elements by kind and lists recent changes.
  • Model → Editor: one text document per top-level package (SysML v2 Text Editor).
  • Model → Browser: the package tree (SysML v2 Browser). Model → Import and Export: .sysml and SysML v2 JSON files (Import and Export SysML v2 Files).
  • Behavior, Architecture and Interfaces: the model's views, the Simulator, Budgets & TPMsTechnical Performance Measure A key technical parameter, such as mass or power, tracked over time against its target and threshold. and the interface pages (Behavior, Architecture and Interfaces, Views in SysML v2 Projects).
  • Frameworks: DoDAFDepartment of Defense Architecture Framework The US DoD framework for describing architectures as a set of viewpoints and products, such as OV-1 and SV-1. and UAFUnified Architecture Framework An OMG architecture framework that organizes views in a grid of viewpoints and aspects. It covers DoDAF and NATO needs. products drawn from the model (DoDAF and UAF in SysML v2 Projects).
  • Needs & Requirements: the Requirements and Quality pages of LML projects, on the model's requirements (Requirements in SysML v2 Projects).
  • Verification: the RVTMRequirements Verification Traceability Matrix A table of each requirement with how it is verified, the tests that verify it and their latest result., Test Center and Traceability Matrix of LML projects, on the model's verification cases and relationships (Verification in SysML v2 Projects).
  • Risk & Decisions and Plan & Deliver: the same pages as in LML projects, linked to the model's elements (Risks and Decisions in SysML v2 Projects, Plan & Deliver in SysML v2 Projects).
  • Documents open from Needs & Requirements; Whiteboards and Presentations from Plan & Deliver, as in every project.

The project type chip SysML v2 shows next to the project name in the top bar and on Manage Projects.

Definitions and usages

A definition (part def Wheel;) describes a kind of thing. A usage (part frontWheel : Wheel;) is a use of a definition inside another element. Most SysML v2 keywords come in both forms: part def/part, port def/port, action def/action, requirement def/requirement.

Ask AI

Ask AI answers questions about SysML v2 and about using Holarch from Help and the documentation. On the Individual and Team plans, and in the desktop app with your own AI provider, it also answers questions about the open model and proposes changes to it:

  • It reads only the elements a question needs (search, elements with their features, connections, requirements with satisfy and verify, the model's problems), through the same model tools as MCP clients. The whole model is never sent.
  • A change it proposes opens in Review Proposal… under the answer: elements added, changed and removed and the text difference; removals start unticked. Apply Selected applies the ticked changes as one undo step.
  • A change that would add errors to the model is not offered (warnings are allowed). The AI corrects it once; if it still has errors, the answer says what failed.
  • Each question has a token budget. A question that reaches it stops and says so: ask about one package or element.
  • View-only members get answers without proposals. Text in the model (names, doc comments) is treated as data: an answer or proposal that acts on instructions written there is rejected and nothing changes.

On the Free plan, Ask AI answers from Help and the documentation only.

SysML v2 text in an answer shows in a code box that scrolls sideways. For long answers, use the expand button in the panel's title bar, or drag the panel's left edge to make it wider.
