SysMLSystems Modeling Language A graphical modeling language for systems engineering, based on UML, with block, activity, state machine and parametric diagrams. v2 Projects

Text and Views Stay in Step

The text and the views show one model. A change in either place changes the model, and the other place shows it at once.

From text to model

  • Text that parses is applied when you pause typing, leave the editor or press ⌘S / Ctrl+S. The changes are one undo step and show in every view, table and rail page.
  • A member that does not parse is not applied. The text stays a draft in this browser, marked in the gutter, and the model keeps its last good state. Fix the error and the draft is applied.
  • A draft is kept when you leave the page. When you come back, a banner says the text has changes that are not applied; Discard Draft drops them and shows the model's text.
  • Elements keep their identity when you edit, rename or move them in the text, so view layouts, comments, links and history stay attached.

From views and pages to text

  • Drawing in a view, editing a cell in a table or a field in the inspector writes the matching SysML text, checked first: a change the language does not allow is refused with a message.
  • The Editor prints the changed package again, in the standard layout. Your comments and notes in the text stay with their elements.
  • If you were typing in the same package, your draft is merged with the change. When both changed the same member, a banner asks: Keep Mine applies your text, Take Theirs shows the model's text.

Working with others

  • In a shared project the package list shows who else has a package open. Their applied changes reach your text and views the same way.
  • Drafts are never shared: only text that parses reaches the model and the other people in the project.
