Control & Reviews

Libraries

Reuse items from a fixed release of another project. A library's owners publish releases; a project uses one release per library, shows all of its items read-only, adopts items from it as local copies that remember where they came from, or both. On app.holarch.app this is part of the Team plan.

Where to find it

  • In the navigation rail: Control & Reviews → Libraries.
  • Control & Reviews → Libraries. An adopted item shows From <library> <release> at the top of its Item section.

Main actions

  • Publish: owners click Publish This Project as a Library…, then New Release… (a label such as 1.0 and notes). A release is a fixed copy of the project as saved. In the release's ⋯ menu: Withdraw… (projects that use it keep it; other projects cannot choose it), Publish Again, and on app.holarch.app Visibility… (organizations and projects whose members can read it; members of the library always can). Stop Publishing… keeps existing releases.
  • Available Libraries: the libraries you can read with their latest release. Browse lists a release's items; Use in This Project… chooses a release and opens it.
  • Adopt: in Browse, tick items and click Adopt Selected…; choose whether to include the relationships among them and their diagrams. Adopted items get new ids and stay editable. Attachments stay in the library. One undo step.
  • Show library items: tick Show all its items in this project, read-only in Use Library, or ⋯ → Show Library Items. The release's items, the relationships among them and their diagrams then appear in this project as library items: the Database lists them when Library Items is on (or with is:library) with a Library tag; pickers for relationships, diagrams and documents offer them. They cannot be edited or deleted here, and their item pages, diagrams and documents open view only. They do not count toward the project's items or its plan limit, and the project stores none of their content. This project's own items can relate to them, place them on diagrams and add them to documents. Change Release… moves them to another release; Hide Library Items takes them out (relationships to them stay and return when the items are shown again). Adopt… (item banner or the Database bulk bar) makes an editable copy.
  • Libraries This Project Uses: the release in use, adopted items, items shown here and newer releases. ⋯ → Browse, Check Updates, Show Library Items or Hide Library Items, Change Release…, Stop Using… (adopted items stay).
  • Updates: each adopted item is Unchanged, Changed in the library, Changed here, Changed in both or Removed from the library against the release in use. Update n Items Changed Only in the Library applies those at once. Update From Source… shows each differing field with a word diff; tick Take library value per field (library-only changes are ticked). A removed item can be kept as a local item or deleted.
  • Item section: Compare With Source and Update From Source… on an adopted item.

Tips

  • Links to items of a release: in Trace → Other projects → +, choose the library and a Version (Release 1.1). See Link to Items in Other Projects.
  • The project stores only ids of the library and release: names are read with each person's access. A deleted library's releases stay readable for the projects that use them.
