Import Requirements from Word, Excel, CSV or ReqIF

Bring an existing specification into the model as a numbered document.

  1. Open Needs & Requirements → Import and choose the tab for the file: Word (.docx), Excel / CSV (.xlsx, .csv), ReqIF (.reqif), Plain Text (.txt), UML/SysML (.xmi) or project files (.inno, .json, .xml).
  2. Configure: set Import as (Document, or None to add entities without a document), the default class, and for Word or text the outline format. To update entities already in the project, set Match existing entities by to Global ID, Name or Number.
  3. Select: drop the file or choose it. For a workbook, choose the sheet.
  4. Customize: name the document and map each column to Number, Name, Description, Class, Labels, an attribute or Ignore. Word tables are listed under Word Tables: make each table either entities (one per row) or a table in the description.
  5. Preview: check the counts per class, warnings and which rows are New or Updated, then click Save.
  6. Holarch opens the new document. If the import produced warnings, Import Complete lists them first, with Open Document, Open Database and Quality Check.

For CSV and Excel, use a header row such as Number,Name,Description,Class and outline numbers (1, 1.1, 1.2) so the hierarchy is rebuilt. One undo (⌘Z) removes the whole import.
