Getting Around Holarch
Trash
The project's Trash: the entities deleted in this project, kept for 30 days and then removed automatically. Deleted items are never shown outside their project; deleted projects are in the Trash in Manage Projects.
Where to find it
- In the navigation rail: Trash.
- Trash in the rail tools (next to Database and Diagrams), ⌘K / Ctrl+K → Trash, or Open Trash in the note after a remove. Address:
trash.
Main actions
- Each row shows the class, the entity, when it was deleted, the reason (Deleted, or Removed from <view>; no relationships left), the days left before it is removed automatically and its relationship count. Type in the filter field to narrow the list by name, number, class or reason.
- Restore brings the entity back with the same id, its relationships (where the other entity is in the project), diagrams and comments. Children that went up a level when it was deleted go back under it. An entity deleted with its children restores with them.
- ⋯ → Preview shows the entity read-only: attributes, description, relationships, the children that went up a level and the texts that still cite it. ⋯ → Delete for Good… removes it from the Trash after a confirmation.
- Restore All restores every entry; Empty Trash deletes every entry for good after a confirmation. Both are one undo step.
- Remove versus delete: on a diagram, in a document or in a presentation, Remove takes an item out of that view only. When that leaves the entity with no relationships, no diagram of its own and no text that cites it, it moves to the Trash in the same undo step; the note says the entity is in the Trash and offers Undo and Open Trash.
- Children of a deleted entity move up to its parent (the parent shown on the diagram first), with the same relationship and in its place in the numbering; without a parent they become top-level items. The confirmation says where they go. Check Delete the children too to delete the whole branch instead; it starts unchecked each time.
Tips
- References to a deleted entity in rich text (entity values, links, cross-references, diagram pictures) show as missing until it is restored. It keeps its id, so they come back.
- Entries older than 30 days leave the Trash automatically, also in projects nobody opens. There is no limit on the number of entries.
- Items that were already in the Trash before the 30-day limit was introduced get 30 days from the upgrade, not from when they were deleted.
- Removing items from calendars, boards and charts changes an attribute only; those entities never move to the Trash.
